Latvia needs your help
Children Our Future is a UK based charity making a difference to the lives of homeless, poor, neglected and abused children in Latvia.
Latvia is the country in Europe struggling the most from the current economic crisis. The economy has collapsed, unemployment has tripled, social benefits, health services, and education have been cut simply because the government has no money.
Those lucky enough to remain in employment are seeing their wages cut, by as much as 30 or 40%, especially in the state sector so the general standard of living is deteriorating dramatically and there is a significant increase in homelessness, alcoholism and general poverty.

Many children live in poor accommodation...

The children's centre is a warm, safe place...
...where kids can get food, clothes and love.
Once a year we take them on a camping holiday.
Latest news - Spring 2012
Christmas
This year kids decorated the tree and put different decorations that they made during advent. They also had an advent calendar which was filled with sweets for each day aproaching Christmas. In this time they also practised for the Christmas play and sang several carols. They had fun baking gingerbreads and preparing little crafts for their families.
Everyday life
At the moment the center is run by two full time members of the staff Thomas and Daiga Ellaby with aditional help from volunteers once or twice a week. Kids come in after school or kinder garden and they have lunch. After that they have a little play time so they can rest. The free time is usually spend by kids playing with toys, drawing and by doing the activities provided by the staff members.
